Software Developer Intern (Product)

Fermyon Technologies is a software company building the next wave of cloud computing based on WebAssembly. The position

We’re hiring a Software Engineer Intern for Summer 2025 to help build the next generation of cloud computing. As an intern, you’ll join an experienced engineering team that’s shipping global-scale software like Fermyon Wasm Functions. You’ll work at the cutting edge of distributed systems and developer tooling, building fast, secure services designed for WebAssembly-based workloads.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to stretch their engineering skills across systems design, programming languages, and real-world operations.

This is a full-time paid internship ($25/hr), expected to last approximately 3 months during Summer 2025. Exact dates are negotiable.

Responsibilities

These are all the things we are thinking about. We’re looking for someone who can help us prioritize and do things the right way in the right time frame.

Contribute to real features and backend systems that power Fermyon products
Learn how large-scale, distributed systems are architected, tested, and operated in production
Build and improve developer experiences through CLI tools, SDKs, or APIs
Help improve performance, security, and scalability of WebAssembly-based workloads
Give feedback on internal processes, tooling, and documentation to help us grow as a team

Requirements

At least one years of hands-on experience developing software across at least two of the following languages (listed roughly in order of preference):
- Javascript/Typescript
- Rust
- Python
- Go
- C#/.NET
- C/C++
- Zig
- Php
- Swift
- Grain
Experience brainstorming, selecting, creating, and producing customer-oriented solutions
Experience creating solutions from the ground up, in a new technical area, leveraging subject matter experts
Agreement to embody the Fermyon values
Fluent English speaker

Bonus points for

Experience building or deploying WebAssembly applications (Spin, Wasmtime, etc.)
Familiarity with cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, containers, serverless, observability tools)
Previous contributions to open source or collaborative software projects
Systems programming, CLI design, or backend architecture coursework or experience
